Hiring the right entertainment for your event is probably the single most important decision for the successful outcome of your event. When you plan a party of any sort, your objective is to ensure that your guests have a good time. The entertainment you choose is a direct reflection on you. How does one hire a DJ company? Some people view DJ's as a commodity and choose the cheapest one they can find, not knowing the differences or what to consider other than price. Horror stories abound of DJ companies that lure customers with low prices, only to provide an inexperienced person with poor people skills, an inferior music library, shoddy equipment, and arriving either late or not at all or arriving inappropriately attired. Here are some important points to remember when you interview a DJ company: -Does anyone answer the phone when you call? If not, does someone return your phone call promptly? At Carolina Mobile Music, we are a full time, multi-system, professional entertainment business and can be easily reached during regular business hours. -Are they a multi-system company or are they a sole proprietor? (This is probably the single most important thing to consider in selecting your entertainment). At least once a month, we receive a frantic call from someone whose DJ has become unable to provide the music for an event. Most sole proprietors are part time enthusiasts who are otherwise employed full-time, and who are looking to supplement their income. All too often, the part-timer is called in to work, becomes ill, or some other emergency arises that prevents the them from performing at an event. At Carolina Mobile Music, we are a full-time, multi-system company with several qualified, experienced DJ's that are available to serve our clients' needs. Every weekend, on a rotating basis, one DJ is assigned to be "On-Call." (See this testimonial for an example of the value of being able to have a DJ in reserve)! During the busy season from mid-March through December, most DJ's are booked several weeks in advance. When a part-timer cancels an event, there is little chance of finding a quality replacement. At Carolina Mobile Music, when we receive these calls, if we are fully booked, we will not put your event at risk by assigning our "On-Call" DJ to a last minute event. When interviewing prospective DJ companies, be sure to ask them if they are a sole proprietor, and if so, are they employed full time, and do they have any issues that should be disclosed which may possibly prevent them from fulfilling their obligation. -Do they provide a written agreement? It is very important to confirm your booking in writing. The terms should be clearly defined with no room for misunderstanding. -Does the company have a music list that shows you what sort of music they have available? In some fashion, you the client, need to be assured that the company you hire not only has a sizeable collection, but has a variety of music, especially for wedding receptions, where many different styles of music and guests will be in the same room together. -Does the company subscribe to a professional music subscription service so that their music collection is current? Professional weekly and monthly subscription services are essential to insure that the company is on top of what is hot on the radio and in the clubs. -Does the company use professional grade equipment? The company should be able to tell you what equipment they use and should be able to characterize the equipment as professional grade. |
